- Alian et al, You have all asked me “How to study” for the NBE CCEeXAM. So I figured since I am sitting down to tell Alian, I’ll tell you all. You can register and find all the details of how to get boarded here: https://echoboards.org/ By the way, what the hell IS a cc echo exam? It’s NOT a simple ED FOCUS!!! and this video walks you through it, obviously you will be a lot faster after a year of them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJB8ZNtVAvA It is a hard test, there is no way around this. It takes a lot of time to prepare for. My engagement basically fell apart because of this exam. (joking) But major curve when grading, so it’s passable. Here is how I would study if I could do it again: 1) YOU MUST KNOW THE CONCEPTS IN THESE PAPERS: https://www.advancedcriticalcareecho.org/reading-list The creators of the test essentially picked the questions from them. I was not aware of these papers until it was too late, if I could do it all again, this is what I would study almost exclusively. 2) Watch all these videos from 2018 SCCM https://www.dropbox.com/sh/u4evoa03d2rdq85/AACmqqFKQIiblHbFW4uqF2kma?dl=0 The downside is they go into a lot more detail on some things than others and this review course was made BEFORE the first exam ever. 3) This blog is written by echo techs that are super smart and I found that many of there posts “explain it like I am five” and it was very helpful to grasp the harder concepts but I am a dumb dumb dumb (not like Garett): https://www.cardioserv.net/echo-mr-color-flow-doppler/ There was barely any MR or MS on exam though. 4) GG and I both used this qBank (~$400) and it’s shit. But it does a decent job of giving you a sense of questions and beats you over the head with simple concepts. https://learn.emedicalacademy.com/visitor_catalog_class/show/158615/CCEeXAM-Question-Bank 5) This book helped me build a foundation but is not detailed enough, http://www.ccu2e.com/index.html, Ahmad had her fellows reading this which I bought with CME money and is good but I have dived deep: https://www.amazon.com/Textbook-Clinical-Echocardiography-Catherine-Otto/dp/0323480489 6) GG used and I dabbled with 123sonography.com. He bought the echo master class course. It’s amazing but only some parts are applicable to CCE. 7) Extra Points: - Know how to recognize and interpret SIMPLE things on common TEE views. - Memorize all the various “artifacts” ultrasound can produce like “mirroring” and “shimmering” or other shit I never bothered to elarn - Don’t kill yourself on US physics, there was minimal Qs - Congenital anatomy will be on it, but mostly just identifying it - Know indications for contrast (i.e. hard to r/o thrombus in LV w/o it) 8) I attached the CCE guide and up to date TTE cheat sheet for quick reference (mostly for cards fellows, but number are applicable to ours too) Here if you need more info. Bracey, make your fellows do it. They will be better doctors because of it. But give them a LOT of time to prep for it. Ryan N Barnicle, MD, MS Ed
