Drowning Review

 

Fresh Water inactivates surfactant when aspirated.  Also hypervolemia, red cell lysis, hyponatremia.

Salt water causes hypovolemia, pulmonary edema

 

Must aspirate >11 cc/kg before blood volume changes occur
